re: education or practical experience?
by saji joy on Nov 04, 2006 05:01 PM   Permalink

I strongly believe that education plays a vital role in determining the success or failure of a person.
A firm succeeds because of a collective effort, not by the effort of an individual, eventhough ultimately the major chunk of the company's profit will go to the enterprenuer.

According to me, not only technical skills are required by an enterprenuer, but also management skills. He should learn to keep his employees happy.
If he tries an autocratic approach, then eventhough he is a technical genius, then it is of no use because a single person cannot do everything.
Agreed that Dhirubhai Ambani was not much educated, he started from the root level of business. I have read somewhere that he was working in a foreign country in a petrol pump. With all his limited savings he came back to India. With the money he started selling clothes wandering from house to house.
From there he expanded and expanded untill he reached a point where very few reach.
Please note that because he learnt the basics of business just like an MBA student starts learning from
day one of his college he succeeded.
