I guess these tips are for the pseudo western mommies who have no time from society or crappy call centre jobs to pay for their western lifestyle. most indians know these. no need to quote silly books from US MDs.

I totally disagree with you Krishnan. I have been following the above routine now for 7 months and my baby goes to sleep by around 8:00 pm or maximum 8:30 pm in the night. We get apprx 2 hrs for us to wind off days work, spend some time together, read etc after she goes to sleep. The greatest problem in India is lack of discipline to follow a routine everyday. Even I failed to maintain this routine when on vacation in India. But now that Im back to my usual life in UK, everything has fallen into its place. A routine is MUST for babies to go to sleep at proper time.

Well, you are not a mother and definately not a working mother. Though all mothers know this, a reminder and a tip helps. from any source.
