My problem is my wife does not save. She does not allow me to save also. If she sniffs that I am going to get some bonus next month, she will spend it this month. I know there is now way I can mend her. So I started these RDs and SIPs long ago. I have started out with a joint account but looking at her spending, I abandoned that account keeping only a minimum in it and opened a separate account for myself. Similarly in the above case, the fictitious woman called Lata would do well to refuse to spend her money, and spending for all household expesnes, bills, etc. should come from the man's account.
