Why we do not get to hear about the next big product innovation by an IIM Grad? Why not a story on the turn-around made by an ex-IIM? The list can grow longer. We do not get to see media making stories on such achievments. Given the hype around campus offers that the media has been creating for last few years, the whole of young generation would be led to believe that the salary offered at the campus is the highest achievement that exists on earth! An earnest request to media: Please stop this, you are doing a great disservice to the nation!

I agree. The media highlights the high salaries drawn by the young graduates as if this is the only achievement of the IIMs. There are many other professions that pay similar salaries why don't they report on them also. One may try to guess the reason and there are several. The Brand IIM is one. The indirect boost to the mushrooming coaching institutes who cash in on the mania in the younger crowd is another; paying astronomical sums to get into these prestigious institutes a third. Lastly, they seem to have attracted even potential extortionists as a recent news item reveals. I think it is time that the media stopped talking about salaries of the IIM graduates in everybody's interest.
