Brand name does matter specially at present. There are innumerable companies which come only to IITs and not to nits. This might change in a few years. The kind of job opportunities i have found being in IIT are hard to find in other colleges. Engineering is not just software engineering! :) It might be consultant, Data Analysts, Finance, just to name a few. A lot of non IT, non engineering companies which visit IIMs come to IITs. Obviously it is very hard for a guy aged 17 to chalk out a career path!
