Going to the US
by Ravi on Aug 06, 2006 11:32 PM   Permalink

Welcome Sidharth. I agree with the messages posted by other members and I appreciate the candid responses. To summarize please note that:

1. While all of us have tried and should continue to obtain some kind of funding or assistantship from the University, you should be prepared to fund your eductaion in the worst case situation that you do not get the required funding. Please note that most US Universities have restricted funding lately particularly to international students.

2. If your situation back home is not very sound financially I would consider getting a loan approved for the entire cost of your education in India. You can now get education loans in India for up to $50,000 each year at good rates. However you would have to arrange for a colateral as we do not get un-colateralized educational loans in India unlike the US.

3. For the most part, International Students do not qualify for loans in the US. I have heard of some very rare exceptions but would not keep my hopes high on loans in the US.

(To be continued in the next posting.....)
