Backward classes - a number game.
by T.P. Viswanathan on Apr 20, 2006 11:18 PM   Permalink

The author has brought out certain vital background material and present facts. Assuming not admitting the veracity and relevance of the age old statics, one must admit that the number or nomenclature of casts was a pure political game to catch votes. In many states (e.g. Tamil Nadu and Kerala) where brahmins were larger in number than the combined strength of SC/ST/OBC in 1930 almost well upto 1970, have turned minority in those states. Undisclosed and unexplainable persecution and supression of Brahmins are going on in those States simply because of the larger number of SC/ST/OBC in those states.
Politically driven reservation will only accentuate the disparity and confusion.
