After a long time, IITs have realised how the lifes of many were getting spoiled due to mad rush to get into IITs. Only 3000-odd people can get admission in an year and lakhs are out there struggling for an elusive dream for 3-4 years. If they join some other engineering institute meanwhile after completing class XII, they will have better chance.
Let the sanity prevails upon the directors and they should not budge from this decision. 2 chances are enough to show one's mettle. If the aspirants are intelligent enough to get into IIT and could not do due to some unforeseen circumstances, they acn always choose some other options and can excel in it. DON'T FORGET THAT IITs ARE NOT RESERACH INSTITUTION BUT ENGG INSTITUTION. One who can do better in one applied area can very well succeed in other applied domain and examples are abound.
The same should be done with UPSC exams also. Let the mockery ends once and for all. Enough is enough. Young people should not be wasted amusing themselves that they are doing some imp work while they just rot themselves during preparations.

If many people want to spoil there lives let them. Nobody who has have hard earned money will be in senses to throw away precious 3-4 years just to get in IIT and sit with so many juniors. On the other hand coaching classes will have double benifits to prepare for 12th Firstclass and also to IITs. Who is going to prevent that? Whereas many genuine students who will miss the 1st class in 12th will certainly be ruined for life as they can't appear to board 2nd time!!! So far many who hadn't scored 60% in board have got cleared JEE and alumni of IITs(incl. myself).

Purushottam,
I could not clear IIT in two attempts and due to a blind pursual of the dream to get into IITs, I was not able to concentrate even on normal syllabus. This made it tough for me to compete even for other engineering colleges. Ultimately, I went on to do B.Sc.(H) and then did MCA from a reputed institute and now am earning a decent income in a bangalore IT company. Am I faring really bad? Not at all in my view. I have seen the futility of continuing beyond 2nd attempt and thanks to that,I have progressed in life.
So, think of life beyond IITs also.In any good system, there are always restrictions for attempts. The same should be the case with IITs also.Let there me some minimal regulation. If there is any problem with the borads like WB where they don't award enough marks, IITs might attempt some grading system or the WB authoritis may be forced to change the system. However, IITs are premier institute and let them decide which are the better students in their own way.
You have studied there and you are questioning your own teachers wise decision. They have seen many more batches compared to you and seen the relatice degradation and then came to this conclusion.
