Great article! It is truly an apt description of the home situation, since time immemorial ( read my school-days, twenty years back! ). The only diff. being it was radio those days, and aajkal it is the TV box! One thing in favour of the radio : One could continue studying ( or pretend so! ) while listening to the radio! with TV, one has to be all eyes and ears and also gets fatigued! An amicable solution to Mr. Roy's problem : Let his daughter agree to study and he should agree to the commentary being on, albeit in a low volume and she should be given 5 minute breaks, when an important milestone is reached. e.g. a wicket falls or a batsman gets to a landmark! Of course, AIR also needs to help by bringing back the old standards of commentary : a la Anant Setalvad, Sushil Doshi and all the pre-1970s commentators + also get rid of the 'disconnecting India' fours and sixes adverts.! JAI HO! Khel mein bhi aur school/college padhai aur pariksha mein bhi! ganesh iyer, Chennai.
