I just looked at this article which was published sometime back. First of all I don't understand why people write this kind of things. The author seems to be "Rukmini Iyer is a corporate trainer and instructional designer". Could some one please tell me what qualifies her to give a message to the people on how to grow in their careers.Unless commercial reasons involved for the benefit of her inisitute.I don't know her background but if she had mastered these skills by this time she would've achieved the top positions that she was talking about. Its better is she focusses on improving innovation and enterprenurial spirits in the people instead of these "soft" skills which can only make indian engineers end up working as 'cheap-labor' for the MNCs.
All these skills will be just an excuse to your poor technical skills and won't help if it comes to a point of company's layoffs. If you increase your analytical, problem solving skills and add innovation to things then you will be capable of doing anything and you won't require your dumb boss to recognize you.
I hope the author will read this, change her approach and stop writing articles like this misleading the people.
