kids education

hi
Rashmis mail has touched an underlying chord in my heart. As a mother of 2 toddlers, I also go thru the pangs of how to identify and develop their talent so that they dont get subsumed by our education system. I asked my son's nursery teacher that he seems to enjoy sketching and drawing. So what could I do to promote that? The teacher could not give any inteligent answer to me. When a nursery child doesnt listen to the teacher, he is made to hold his ears as punishment. what kind of discipline is this? and this is in one of the established schools in delhi.
SOmetimes you want to go abroad so that the kids could get a real education? ARe there any takers for people like us?

Hi Nirupama,
Sorry, but I dont agree with you.
I am sitting in Germany and one thing I am proud of is Indian school system.I also posted my comment on this article yesterday.
If you want India to shine, may be in next 20 yrs, I would say Indian education system is the only hope. Education is not part of life, it is something which makes your life. May be after 30 years when we have everything in India we should think about it but not at this stage. Just like Amit children two of my friends well settled in Singapore and Thailand are in India for initial schooling. You learn the meaning of compitition there. Nothing in your life has more priority than studies, even if you are not in top 10% of your class.
Lockers in school can be a better option. I have truly no regrets of carrying 10kgs bag daily to school. Infact, I feel happy about it. These are very small things in front of your studies or career.
It was too nice to be punished by my teachers. It was good that I was beaten in class for not doing homework. Good that my teachers were worried about me.Elimination of homework will create big problems. Our system gives rise to hard compitition.Do but no need to die.
Regards
Kalman

Hi Nirupma,
The one ting I'm proud of sitting in America that my initial schooling was done in India. So whatever you do donot think of sending your kids abroad for studies. When i have kids i'm planning to send them to india for teir initial schooling. Try to explore more options in India itself. Beleive me its the best education sysytem in the world.
