I couldn't have agreed more with the writer that it is the misunderstanding that the outsiders (includes relatives, neighbours, etc.) create which poses as a biggest threat to the successful development of any relationship.
This particular story in a way reminded me of my own upbringing when I along with my two younger sisters had lost my mother when I was less than 10 years old.
When my father remarried after sometime, there was no one who assured us that this was best in the family's interest and that things would work out well in the future.
Growing up with a step family has its own ups and downs but I strongly feel that the society's role should be all the more positive so that the family remains united in a strong bond.
Nevertheless, this kind of upbringing in life did teach me some valuable lessons and today I feel proud that we all have come out successful from this relationship.
