Owners failed to pick the right captain
by Ashok Palanivel on May 05, 2008 03:30 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I hope many of us will agree that Chennai team is strong due to strong captain. He is also instrumental in team selection / purchases. If the team captain is not a T20 player, the team would also not be T20 format and thus will loose a lot. Bangalore RC is the best example where the owner failed to select the right captain (Robin uthappa) and went for Test player. Delhi and Chennai are the positive examples.

what do you think about Warne...dude..he earlier never played any T20 or captained to any side..urs observations completly failed here. Any games needs attitude and passion, leadership ability and killing instict..the X factor..as Rahul said.

Wait n watch - Chennai will not be in semifinal..I told last week that they will be loosing most of the match when Hayden, Hussey and Oram will go back so they lost last 2 matches..They will be loosing next match with Decan Chargers too. One of the team either Kolkata, Mumbai or Bangalore will be in semifinal..lot of surprise will be happening

Yes, I know. Owner wanter a karnataka player to head bangalore team. So, he should have gone for Robin Uthappa instead of Rahul Dravid. This is the mistake the Vijay Mallaya made.

I don't see any issue with Rahul Dravid being the captain, I believe the problem with selection of the players. Though the captains cannot wash their hands from selection, but this is my point Rahul/Sachin/VVS/Saurav may not play for the next IPL. What is the problem in giving the cpataincy and showing the respect to what they have done for the country. Uthappa is just a hyped player like Sreesanth, after the IPL his place will definetly in trouble, there are Asnodkars/Jadejas/Dhawans who are doing well.

what happened to chennai team yesterday? RR which was considered a underdog team massacared chennai team. what did dhoni do to save this match, he was smartly done off by a non-T20 player called shane warne.
Chennai won only becos of overseas players and now they are gone, soon you will find them at the bottom of the table.

The 2 teams at the bottom of table are having test player as captains. 3 of the top 4 teams today, have T20 players as their captain.

I do not think that was possible. Rahul was made the icon player for Bangalore and hence had to be the captain. He had to religate his position as icon player and come in as a regular auction formate for the captain and the team to be different.
