There is no need of comparison between Kaif and Badrinath as these two players are going to replace the 3rd and 5th slot of the indian test team in coming months, if BCCI realise that the time of Golden 5 is running short.Kumble,Sachin, may play some more time, however, Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman, we should think about Rotation policy not expelling these great guys from the team. While opportunities given to juniors, they can show his performances and back up the bench with much more strength. The coming South African series should be the first step to start rotation policy, for that, Badrinath, Kaif, Parthiv Patel should be included in the Test team. Sehwag is the right guy to become the Vice Captain of the team ahead of Dhoni who is struggling to retain his place, but, I really appreciate his work behind the stumps in recently conlcuded Test Series.

Kaif, can score all the runs in Ranji but he is not good enough for tests. There are lots of other players who seem better than Kaif. Why is Badrinath ignored? He seems to have good technique and also performed well over the years in Ranji.

I have to disgree with you. the matter of fact is that kaif's batting is better suited to tests than ODI's. He has had problems because the line in the past was so strong that the only place he could play was no.7. I believe kaif can be an ideal no.4 or 5 in ODI where he is required to graft for a few overs and then accelerate at the end.

I have to disgree with you. Kaif is better in test? Please post his record here and lets discuss :) Enough of Kaif's technique been discussed, and especially when you have many other techical more accomplished player suited for the longer version of games, why keep beatting on Kaif?

Well Kaif is better than Yuvraj.
First of all statistics:
Kaif:
Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 Ct St
13 22 3 624 148* 32.84 1548 40.31 1 3 14 0
Yuvi:
Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 Ct St
22 35 4 1018 169 32.83 1831 55.59 3 3 24 0
Kaif batted extremely well when Australia was in India last time - when the likes of Sachin, Saurav, VVS (even!!) struggled and India lost the series (2-1). This is when Yuvi failed repeatedly and got kicked out of the team and Kaif got a chance and he played excellent cricket with a couple of solid 50s. But he got pushed out to make way for the big players. He failed when he got his chances again - but if you look at the matches he batted poorly in everyone else including the big stars failed - but he was the one who got kicked out the very next match. His morale was broken down by being given one chance and sitting on the bench for a few more.
Technique wise he is far more superior than Yuvi - but Yuvi is the more popular guy - more sponsorship value! We all know his pathetic display in Australia - he couldnt even play Hogg - who was belted away by our tail-enders. Clueless I tell you.
Anyway - I do agree that Kaif's international career is more or less over - unless Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman retire all of a sudden (unlikely). Its sad that he got a raw deal because he came from a state assoc. which has no clout, does not have a outgoing personality and sponsorship value.

Mr.Amin, Yes he scored a couple of fifties but if anyone watched the game they will tell you how he struggled even then. Kaif may score runs occasionally but he is not the batsmen who can score big hundreds (dont count that 148, because most of the runs after the first 90 came off part time bowlers). In tests we need batsmen who can bat in any situations and also should have the capability to score big hundreds. When Jaffer (who has couple of double hundreds) and better technique than Kaif could not succeed in Australia, how could Kaif? Even Yuvraj is not suitable for tests as he struggles against spin (he just cant play spin, period) and is not too comfortable against genuine genuine pace either. I wonder why they sidelined Venugopal Rao totally? He has pretty good technique and has scored a double hundred against the visiting side. He is more suitable for tests but the selectors in 2005 in all their wisdom kept selecting him for ODI instead. He was bound to fail in ODI because his batting was not suitable for ODI and now is totally out of the picture.
