CRICKET-AN ENTERTAINING INDUSTRY
by srinivas shrini vas on Apr 02, 2008 03:40 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The way the game of cricket is going,it can no longer be called as Sport. It can be called as an entertaining industry and all the players can be called as entertainers. Cricket can no longer be called as Gentleman's game. With the auction of the players by several corporates and entertainers, the players have become a commodity and they carry a price tag.

There is always a link between cricketers and entertainers as both need them for various reasons.

There was a time when the real sportsmen and women were happy with the medals they get at the International Meets. But the cricketers are not happy with the Medals if it is not accompanied with a fat cheque.

A case in point is the Indian Cricket Team participating in the Commonwealth Games few years back when cricket was introduced. Simultaneously a Masala Match with big money was also held in Toronto. Our cricketers were more interested in Masala match rather than the Commonwealth Games as it involved only Medal and they had to stay in the Commonwealth Games village sharing rooms. The cricketers are accustomed to Five star Hotel facility and if they are asked to stay in games Village, how can they stay?.

everybody in sports aim for a good living after they are done with sports, because none of the sports people who have done us proud have been recognised and has been protected by any state government. so why should they refuse when they are offered and mind you they are paid so much only for their talent and nothing else. smart cricketers of yesteryears have started commentating so that they can keep earning for their life time like Gavaskar, Shastri etc, but what about other greats like vishwanath,Madanlal, etc. which govt is supporting them for them to say no to the money that are coming from other sources. so broaden your mind
