Your are exactly right & this habit has saved the day for india on fianl winning combination. The same thing happen when Neil Amstrong reached to moon & got surpriced to hear the voice "Chay ye Chay ye" & it was again the same an Malayalee reached earlier there than Neil Amstrong.

Even if he had hit for a six into the stands, some Mallu in the crowd would have caught the ball!!
If he had hit it very very high into the sky, some Mallu Air-hostess in Air India would have caught it!!
If he had it into the ocean far and wide, some Mallu fisherman straying into African waters would have caught it!!
