What is the need of state government paying the money to cricketers. Anyway whose money are they so liberally giving to cricketers. Its the tax payers money.

The cricketers have already got nearly 70lacs from BCCI. If the state government had used the money for some developmental purpose then I would have been happy.

Sudhir, forget the money part. the stupid bjp govt should at least honor these two guys that were a key part of the successful team. their performance also puts to rest the contribution/commitment of indian muslims in contest against pakistan.

Ahmedabad, Sept. 26 (PTI): Two days after India won the Twenty20 cricket World Cup in Johannesburg, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today announced Rs five lakh award for Pathan brothers -- Irfan and Yusuf -- members of the team which defeated Pakistan.

Cabinet minister I K Jadeja confirmed to PTI that the government will be giving Rs five lakh award to the both the cricketers from Vadodara.

Yesterday, Gujarat Cricket Assocation (GCA) also announced that it will felicitate all members of the victorious Twenty20 team on the sidelines of the NKP Salve Challenger Series which will be held next month at the Sardar Patel stadium at Motera near here.

Earlier in the day, the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) also announced a cash reward of Rs 11 lakh to each member of the cricket team.

"Both Irfan and Yusuf had played an important role in the historic win of India over arch rivals Pakistan in the final of the Twenty20 world cup", BCA vice-president Sanjay Patel had said while announcing the award

although cricketers shud b given due credit for their achievement, the fact is that they r very rich. and if they need to be encouraged by way of money, just give it from the bcci's tijori or from state ckt association's tijori and not from the govt's exchequer which is the common man's hard earned money.
and pl dont bring communal angle to the issue of irfan. firstly u shud know that persons celebrating indian victory over pak were attacked in jammu (and that jammu is in india and not in pak).

You think "Rediff is media" and "media is rediff"? Do you think Modi will be browsing rediff every minute of the day to see what this web site is saying about him and correct the "so called mistake". Rediff is spreading communal and sensational news to get more eye balls. Haven't you understood by the kind of headlines they give?:-)
