Too much expecttation is not good
by Sanjeev Verma on Sep 25, 2007 06:25 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

It is interesting to note that we won both in 83 and 2007 when expectations were not very high. Also, giving chance to young players was a good one. people have short memory. Both Dravid and Kiran More were giving importance to younger players and we did very well with Raina, Kaif and Yuvraj in the team. However, we brought Tendulkar, Ganguly and Kumble back in the team just before the world cup and it turned out to be a bad move. There are players like Kaif and Raina, who should be included to improve our fielding. Gambhir and Ganguly both are left hand openers but hence selectors will have to decide whether to go with Ganguly or Gambhir. Ganguly is also a good batsman but Gambhir is a better fielder also. People always tend to see politics in everything. Sometimes change is required for cricketing reasons also.

KAIF is a JOKE
RAINA is a JOKE
What did they ever do.
Kaif scored single digit scores in all the recebt India 'A' matches and in the same mathes Badrinath and Parthiv Patel scored a string of centuries.

That's why I say that people have a very short memory. Raina and Kaif played very well in India's victory over Sri Lanka, England and Pakistan in year 2004. Kaif had done very well also in those victories. He also had a very successful West Indies Tour also.

I have always agreed with your thoughts, but Kaif being successful in WI is bit hard to understand. I do know the one ODI India won, Kaif turned the clear win situation for India into a clifhanger..

Raina is not even India A team but he is a livewire in field. He is also a very good batsman.

Correct... The lesson is pick only players who are fit and currently in form... instead of long long ago greatness like Tendulkar....

I agree..The idea to drop Zaheer, Pathan and Harbhajan was good one. They regained their form and fitness and came back to team.
