But, I remember 30 and 20 over matches played in Mumbai in local tournaments in the 70's and 80's.
In mid to late 80's 15-over tournaments were also played.
In 90's and the new millenium 8-over and sometimes 6-over tournaments were played. These tournaments used to last for 2 weekends or even one weekend (Sat & Sun).
I'm sure it must be played in other States of India as well.

Kids on the streets play 5-10-20 overs games. I think they have been playing for a long time.
I am sure they play like this around the world. There is no inventor. Although Twenty20 is fun to watch, they need to remove those gay cheerleaders, DJs, dugouts, and bowl-out.
Javed Miandad is right. ICC is trying to copy baseball and other sports. Cricket is older than a lot of sports, so they should keep the way it is.
Jay Hind. Bharatmata ki Jay.
Hats off to Umar Gul and Misbah, but we were better at some place. We deserve to be winners.
