Dont comare the mighty windies with Aussi.
by Anniyan on Oct 13, 2007 01:03 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Windies of 1983 can never be compared with the present day Aussi attack. I still remember the reign of terror unleashed by Late Marshall and Co, they beat Kapil's in all department such as there was a cartoon in a daily showing Kapil giving back the cup to Lloyd and asking him to leave us alone. The present day Big mouthed Aussi team is no where near them, Aussi talk better cricket than play, moreover we have proved that they are not unbeadable.

Maybe true that this australian team or for that matter any other team after the 50's may not be comparable to the Windies 83. The fact remains that the Aussies have been the best in business for the past many years and are most durable. Yes thy may be beaten a few times and may be beatable but other teams have to show the consistency to be calles Champs. Mere aggressive posture will not do in the field but solid performance is required.

Beating the Aussies in one game does not prove anything. I have not checked the records but I would not be surprised if our win in the 4th ODI was the first victory in over 10 games aganist the Oz.

By the way, if we go by your defintion, neither was WI unbeatable, for we beat them in the 1983 final by a country mile!

I will agree with the author in that this Aussie domination is perhaps just as good as the 70-80 WI team.

I also will not agree with the argument that the WI of the 70-80 were more sporting. They too whined and whinged at every given opportunity, threatened opposition by tactics that by any measure would be considered unsporting. However since there wasnt any concept of Match Refree or trial by TV, they (WI) managed to get away with it. You only have to look at Holding kicking the stump out of the ground for receiving a bad decision from an umpire to reinforce this view.

This australian team is very professional, perhaps have a little on your face attitude, which gets a bit irritating after a point. But they certainly are worthy champions and offer a lot for other teams to learn from.

you may be right on the domination part but when you compare the quality of player i dont think the australians stand a chance, you cant compare king viv richards with ricky ponting or michael holding with brett lee

Oh... I totally agree with you. For that matter you cannot compare the entire Oz batting line-up against Sachin and Rahul but cricket is a team game where what is important is the sum of the individuals and the individuals themselves.

The current bunch of Australians as a team are much more formidable than any team past or present. They can play attacking cricket but are also never never back down from a verbal duel if it came down to that. They do look invincible and its about time we leave our allegiences aside and stand up and applaud a champion team.
