Lets stop shouting at our cricketers
by subrajit basu on Mar 30, 2007 06:42 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

What do u expect people of Kolkata to do on Ganguly's return? Run behind him with sticks and shout at him? This is no way u welcome our guys who r gr8 though they missed out in this world cup. I am no Ganguly fan. But see the way the other Indian cricketers came back to India.. They were afraid. Y do they need to be. Its just a game. They r not corrupt like out politicians. And y do we shout at these guys when they loose a game. Do we pay them? But we do to our politicians. Why do we not shout at them. They should be asked to resign and not a Dravid or Sachin. Grow up people of India. These guys have represented this country. Does anyone of us writing about there removal or resignation in rediff have the courage to even play for our state?? The answer is NO. Then we dont have the right to say anything. I dont deny we are hurt. But that doesnt mean we should go out burning effigies of our cricketers. These guys didnt ask u to watch their matches or to make them their heroes. Its we who have made them that. So now we dont have the right to shout at these guys. Dont forget its the same guys who took India to the finals in the last world cup. And its just a match that India lost that threw them out of the World Cup. These things happen in cricket. Am sure the next time India face Bangladesh they r going to thrash them even if our best players dont play. Do u think Bangladesh will again defeat Aussies again. Guys grow up. There r many other topics in India which we should be discussing about and not about India loosing in the first round or Ganguly getting a warm welcome in India. Besides, I was reading people saying Ganguly should have played aggressively against Bangladesh. If he did when the wickets kept falling on the other hand, then India wud have made a much less score. Thats y I feel the timing of his out was not right. He went in to hit after Yuvi got out and then himself got out as well.. Else India wud have some more runs to defend, and anything cud have happned.
But the main thing is lets stop making all these bull**** comments bout our crickets. Am sure the next time they start winning u r gonna make them ur heroes again.

Well Mr.Basu, I would like to answer one of your questions, you asked whether we pay them, then let me tell you yes we do pay them, whenever we drink any cola, mineral, eat biscuit, health drinks, we pay them... in every 10 Rs. bottle of Pepsi we pay them about 2-3 Rs. these guys are getting money from us ... mind u n not at all performing.. not even bothered of performing. Dont tell me who tells you to do so ... I drink cold drinks because I like it and we are forced to pay the amount like we are forced to pay to our netajis. And tell me last time when they performed every body praised them ... then also they should have told the same thing that its just a game dont make us hero ... dont pay us for playing ... why are they crying foul now when they are being kicked for the bad performance rather one of the worst performance .. tell me wht do they expect from us just sweets and no slaps ... i m telling you if i find rahul or sachin i will surely slap them ... because these are the guys who have been contributing in making the inflation rate high.

2 - 3 days back also i raised these points, you should have gone through that column of mine.

Vishal

I believe expressing your view in Blog more wiser than burning effigy.

Well definitely all Indians have the right to criticise. Why people are agonised it is because of very special event and the team they selected has one of the batting line up in the world (atleast in the paper,if not in the ground)

Losing is definitely a part of game and well our cricketers get lots of excuses too. If you take at percentage of winining ours is 50% of the matches played. So the point is how they loose. Did any one of the player ever even think of fighting. Sport people are admired and they are made role models because of their fighting spirit. The way they batted and thier body language is what most of our fans is upset about. The wicket is good and was definitely a good pitch to bat and it is the third continuous game they play. so in all sense condition should match.

so this is the best way to show your comments instead of burning effigies. (at least even one cricketer read this that is the win for this Blog)

Hi subrajit,
I haven't ever seen such a strong & positive message to any message boards or blogs on internet so far. You really have dont an exceptionally excellant & briliant job by posting your views here.
I'm too a Ganguly fan, so as Sachin & Dravid. What I just wanted to say here that Ganguly didn't play his natural aggressive games in 3 matches in WC but he scored some runs atleast in those matches. What about others?? Now, in the beginning balls were moving & BD bowled so well that openers & others couldn't make runs easily. This early movement of balls were also reported everywhere after the match (even dravid acknowledged that & said that he misread the pitch). Dravid actually shouldn't have taken batting when he won the match.
He definitely played slowly in BD match but don't you guys think that if he could have played more strokes it would have been risky for India given that wickets kept falling on the other end? I think, when he saw that wickets were falling constantly, he thought that it would have been better to stay atleast 40-50 overs so that at the end if there are wickets left he could have charged the bowlers. If there is no specialist batsman in hand in the last 5-10 overs then it's actually impossible to score flowless runs with tailenders. His thinking was right as when he & Yuvi started charging at around 40th & 41st overs, we got 11 & 9 runs accordingly (so far as I remember). Then Yuvi unfortunately got out but at 43rd over Ganguly again wanted to hit a bigger one & gave a catch & got out. Then what did we see? Most of the other tailenders gave away their wickets (4 wickets gone in 2-3 overs or so). Now just think, if he could have stayed like 2 more overs then first, we didn't loose those wickets & second, we would have atleast 20 runs more in total after 50 overs. Now we've got 191 after 50 overs against BD (which BD managed to make on their 50th over). It would have been around 220 & heaven forbid we've won the match.
Now again, another thing, which people are not mentioning: what about our fielding in that match? Everyone says Dada can't field well. Well, what did dravid do? He missed a simple catch in that match. Harbhajan, Dhoni, Uthapa all missed easy or half chance catches. In that match I could easily remember we missed atleast 5 catches. One of the BD 4 down batsman, Rahim managed 50 not out but his easy catch was missed by Dhoni when he was 8. Now you guys tell me, even if we got 191, in this low scoring matches if we keep missing catches, do we deserve the winning? I don't think so.

That's why I don't understand why always people blame Dada, not others !!! Just go to cricinfo & check the statguru, you'll find that Ganguly got 9 50's in his last 11 matches averaging best compared to Sachin, Dravid, Sehwag & Yuvi.
Still you guys will blame Dada for his batting?

Please think about it before criticizing someone ALONE.

And for the people who are bringing regionalism here, please don't do that as most of the Bengalis (like me) think that First there is India & then Bengal (or other states), not the otherwise. For some of you guy's mean comments & behavior we all Bengalis feel ashamed.
Thanks!
