Dev Whatmore should have been the ideal choice for coaching Indian Team. He has the proven calibre and was too willing to accept the job. But one person who has always played Cricket for himself (not for the country)and who has the distinction of scoring 36 n.o. in 60 overs ODI (readers may recall that he had opened the innnings and faced maximum number of balls in that match)ensured that India never gets a competent coach at all.
Before the Coach Selection process becomes another laughing issue, let the BCCI assert itself and re-constitute the Coach Selection Board with really competent people. BCCI also has a misconception that only a foreign coach is suited for India. This thinking has to change as Mr. Sandip Patil and Mr. Rajput have also done good jobs as coaches. Ofcourse, one advantage with the foreign coach is that he is free from petty regional politics.

What is wrong with a foreign coach?I DON'T buy the idea that Indian team is different in culture and players from different states in India can only be managed by an Indian coach.
I am sure any coach with the right kind of vision would be very effective for Team India.
And Team India does not have any trouble mongers in its team like some other teams have. All Indian players have a good discipline and they respect each others and themselves a lot.So that should not be an issue at all.
But Venky , Robin Singh and Gary ...should put team interests above their ego and work for continued and collective glory.
