Kapil is Overhyped !!
by Rohit Dasan Maroli on Aug 21, 2007 09:20 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I think kapil dev is an over hyped cricketer who has been hyped up by indian media.Any body who has followed cricket will acknowledge that Kapil dev was very very good as an allrounder when he started....but slwoly slowly he became a pathetic batsman....his bowling too degraded...He just kept on playing to break hadlees record...and his bowling average and strike rate is the worst for people who have taken more than 400 wickets...his batting average in tests is also ok..tat of 31...Today if u see players like jaques kallis have a test average of 55 with bat and close to 10000 runs and also 200 wickets at an aaverage of 29...but no body praises suck cricketers...because they are silent...performing..kapil was a good indian cricketer....not a great..sorry !! and to think that those days test cricket and one days were without the power hitters and bowling wickets...his bowling stats had 2 be much better...Had he retired gracefuly 4 years before he actualy did his records would have been much better..because last 3 to 4 years of his carrer he used 2 bowl at 120km..and people like greatbatch used 2 bl;ast him...
Regarding ICL tell me guys who wants 2 see a retired stephen flemin or lara or mcgrath ...playing along side dinesh mongia in similar coloured clothing>>.i would love to see lara in a red west indies outfit playing for west indies against a yellow jersey mcgrath playing for australia....Tats a contest....all this is fake....!! the real thing is bcci....although they are m

Kapil was a genuine allrounder.
1) When he retired, he was the highest wicket taker in world. At the same time, had scored more than 5000 test runs i.e. half the achievement of Gavaskar (then the highest run scorer) in the batting as well.
2) during those times, no good bowlers from Ausi, Eng, NZ wanted to visit India reason- dead pitches giving no help to pace bowlers (even now it doesnt help them). Kapil was the one who got max wkts on this dead Indian soil. Agreed, during the last couple of years, he wasnt the best as far as his bowling is concerned. But his batting was never in doubt. when all others required time to settle, he used to come and start scoring runs straightaway. Remember his epic 175 in WC-83. During 1985 series in Ausi, shastri won the Audi car as man of the tournament, but in all matches where shastri scored tortoise innings, Kapil had to come late in innings and to salvage India by scoring quick runs.
3)further fast bowlers work in pairs. but in india he had no support from the other end.
4) inspite of being fast bowler, he remained the fittest player, not to loose any match due to injury. Had record of playing continuously for 67 odd(!!) matches and after that for one match he was dropped by Gavaskar, for so-called indiscipline. He never broke down due to injuries. Lessons to Nehras, Zaheers, Munafs.

Hello Mr Rohit, I totally disagree with you, Do you know Kapil's dedication, sacrifice and the way he played Cricket for our country, He has given all his total talent more than 100 % of what he had what one can excpect from him. Only due to him India could won the world cup, till date no other player nor any captains could win the world cup for our country. It's only he that he could win the Test Series in England in 1986, after that India needs 21 long years to win that too with a mere 1-0 margin. Only Kapil lead India in 1985 World series against the Mighty Australians in Australia. It is only the Kapilwho could score 100 runs against the S.Africans in 1991 - 1992 (Friendly series) wherein there was a controversy of outting the then S.African Wicketkeeper by Mankard out. Until he retires from international cricket he has given his best and dedicating himself only for the country and not for anything nor for money. He played with the passion and with full love. Please kindly bear it in your mind before giving any comments against the Greatest of our Nation.

i thinks is unfortunate that people like you are judging such a legend crickter. I hope you hadn't even born when Kapil brought World Cup with all average performers then. That the sign of leadership quality. And dont forget with time there has been lots of change in building and breaking records. Records of taking 400 wkts then was something diffrent than today. If its was really so easy why other players during that time. I feel you are proving yourself absolutely foolish by writing such a words for such a great person and cricter.

only a damn fool can express such comments regarding Kapil....the only person who gave us the world cup.why do you forget that Kapil played most of his cricket in dead indian pitches.kapil was never patheic...rather you are a pathetic writer.can you imagine kallis taking 400 wickets in indian conditions? He was a great player who never missed a match due to any fitness problem.these kallis's can never ever dream of taking 9 wickets in an innings at a place like ahmedabad.and why are you comparing him with foreign players? He is the best that India ever produced.is that not enough for you.....you pathetic writer!

Kapil was sacked because even after years of tutoring from Gavas-Kar, Vengsar-Kar and Pawar, this jat from Hurry-ana could not learn to speak a single line in Marathi!!

BCCI is owned by maharastrians. How can they tolerate a non-marathi speaking clown from the north?

It is a miracle that he was allowed to hang around for so long!!!
