Responsibility for defeat at WC 2007
by Satendra Bhatia on Apr 13, 2007 01:18 PM

A lot has already been debated in the matter. However, a matter which might have escaped everybody is the lack of leadership that has resulted in the debacle. Rahul Dravid is a very good player, no doubt about it, but from the telecasts of matches one thing which comes out very clearly is his lack of control over other players. An example is, when Ajit Agarkar was trying to play some lofted shots agaist Srilanka in the WC match, Dravid being at the other end, he should have been told in no uncertain terms to only rotate the strike and give strike to Dravid so that runs were scored and the next strategy could be worked out in last overs. Dravid failed to impress upon the same resulting in Agarkar teying a shot too many and getting out. India may not necessarily have won but at least there could have been fight. It appeared at that time as if all fight had gone out of India. This shows lack of leadership. This was apparent even in earlier matches whether lost or won. Further players not following instructions shoul also be shown the door. Lack of leadership and descipline led to the debacle.
