Cricket is heart and soul of India. Nothing bring people as much together as does cricket. But the way our team has performed out there is simply pathetic. I think it is better that India got out in initial stages itself. Better to say that we had couple of bad days. In th way they were playing, they would have lost even to Ireland. So its better that we got out to avoid such humiliation. Now question arises, what next? What are the steps that is needed to be taken. Let's see the problems - 1) No teeth in bowling attack. 2) Batting lacks urgency of taking singles and is too much inconsistent. 3) Fielding - May be worst fielding side in this world cup.
So problems are in all department. What needs to be done - 1) May be Sreesanth is a bit expensive. But he provides teeth and aggression that is lacking from other bowlers. So select him more often. 2) Sachin, Saurav, Kumble etc. must be told... guys its pretty long period that u have served indian cricket. Your contributions are invaluable. However, now that your performances have dipped you should allow other youngsters to come and make their mark. Their may be other Sachin's and Kumble's out there, but they need to be given adequate chance. So please respectfully retiree, so you be remembered as hero and we are saved from uphill task of dropping or axing you. 3) Greg Chappel may be a good coach, his ideas may be great. But 1 thing is clear, that these ideas are not working with India. These ideas may be perfect for Australians, but each country has different styles and different culture. So he sould be asked to leave. Better to take Indian coach, for fielding you may hire a fielding coach etc. 4) Increases participation of national team player in domestic games. International schedule should be made such that it doesn't interefers much with domestic season. Participation of these players would increase competitiveness of domestic cricket, motivate young players and overall make the domestic players more accustomed to handling pressure and knowing what stuff is required in international level.
These are initial few steps which I feel is necessary. This combined with improved infrastructure, better training facilities etc. shall help to revive cricket, the love of India.
