Dont make changes now please!
by on Mar 31, 2007 03:07 AM

Ok flashback to 1983 when the mightly west indies fell to a lowly ranked Indian team. I cant for the life of me think of a bigger shock defeat in the history of cricket. Well, what happened next. I dont recall the Windies changing their team or the captain or even their batting order. They were a team of champion batsmen and champion bowlers and they just decided to stick with that combination. Subsequently this team came back and thrashed many other teams in test and one day series'. Must be noted that many of the team members back then were in their mid 30's including some of the fast bowlers like Garner and Andy Roberts but no one called for their heads on a platter. In this hour of crisis the Indians need to take a leaf out of the west indies team and honestly stick with the same team and combination going forward. Our team as is is not bad. In fact it is a collection of super champion batsmen which any team in the world would love to have as part of their batting arsenal. Some of our bowlers like harbajan and kumble are world beaters and Dhoni is a rare find. So why make changes? A team should be allowed to have a bad day or two but an opportunity to should be given to them to learn from this mistake, recoup and reset. I think in Dravid we have a fine captain and a true leader. One thing i will concur with is about Greg Chappel. We dont need him. We dont need any former super great cricketer as our coach. These types just have egos that are too big and that is a problem. Instead it is time to approach champion coaches like Dave Whatmore (The man behind Sri Lanka's cricket resurgence) who now coaches bangladsh or Coach Buchanan of Australia.
