ICC got it right, Rediff's got it wrong
by on Mar 05, 2007 10:31 PM

ICC has used seeding (which refers to rankings BEFORE the tournament) to schedule the super eight matches which I think is a brilliant idea. It gives some idea to the thousands of people who are paying quite a bit to travel to the west indies about where they need to go to see their favorite teams.

At the same time this idea does NOT give any advantage to any team. If Bangladesh defeats India or SriLanka, they will advace to Super Eight. (i.e. Since SriLanka is B1 and India is B2 does not automatically make them advance). Also, if India finishes top of group B, they will carry forward the points earned against the other team qualifying from B. I.e. being B2 does not put them to any disadvantage.

This article is one of the most ludicrous I have seen by Rediff. Just trying to take advantage of a 'India Vs Pak' headline to get more clicks. Editors at Rediff please do not insult the intelligence of your readers.

And as a footnote, people please compare this world cup's format to the last 4 world cups and you will see that it is the best among them.
