Unappreciated comments of Gavaskar
by Shilu Pahi on Apr 23, 2007 09:41 AM

Gavaskar seems to protect selfish interests of players. Greg Chappell wanted a younger team but Dilip Vengulakar, and selectors went ahead for experienced players (they are most sought after by advertisers, sponsors, etc). Instead, they were knocked out in 1st round of world cup. For example, Saurav Ganguly batted against Bangladesh for 66 runs on 129 balls but it is rumoured that he stayed on for longer due to his contractual endorsement than he should have made quicker runs. How did Gavaskar justify his comments? I respect Gavaskar for his outstanding batting but he is not sensible.
