If he would be given a option to choose someone batting for his life, then he should be one and only one our captain Dravid. If you ask all over the world and great bowlers and great batsman, then you can know who is best. Who is more capable. Who deserves the honour. He is the wisden cricketer of the year 2004. And also nominated again in 2005. During the period of Ganguly's captaincy. And you are saying he has not performed. He has already scored 10000 runs in ODI and 800 short of 10000 in test cricket.
