Lara - no adjectives
by Freek Guy on Apr 24, 2007 10:38 AM

Lara - The man of steel, the man inside runs etc.. will be the usual slogans for him but he was also the man least committed to the game of cricket. He was always looking for personal gains - records while playing - None of his world record tests have really seen the team winning. Moreover, the fact that he was not committed to the game was evident when in the midst of the London World Cup in 1999, he flew over to watch the ongoing Euro Cup Football.
As a captain he has always created rift among the other players and said once that Sarwan is past prime etc.. He was unable to boost the morale of the team at any point of time. Even in this world cup, he was complaining about the team's bad performance as though he never formed a part of it.
May be it was tit for tat that his last game ended in defeat and his last innings ended in a scanty mess.
I know there will be many with different opinion about this guy but I have always viewed Lara as a superbly talented but selfish and uncommitted person. His exit is bad for him, but may do a world of good to West Indian Cricket
