I will like to highlight certains below points, which will clearly shows the bad captaincy by Rahul Dravid :
1. He failed to read the pitch during
Bangladesh Match, otherwise he should have
opted to field first !
2. Despite of low score, he failed to motivate
the whole team to show agressiveness on the
field to build a psychological pressure on
Bangladesh batsmen atleast to give a try
for winning a match !
3. He did not include Irfan Pathan during
Bermuda Match ! I know, Pathan was out of
form, then, why he was included in world
cup squad. If he was included, then he
should be also given a chance to play, and
the match against Bermuda was the right
time ! He might have returned to form and
confidence after taking certain wickets !
This should have helped him to play against
Sri Lanka, and moreover India was fielding
first, which should have helped him to
swing the ball both the ways due to earlier
moisture, and put Sri Lankan batsmen under
more pressure ! This may help India to
restrict Sri Lanka to cross 200 runs !
Apart from this, he is also a good batsman,
therefore, India should have got additional
batsman !
4. Anil Kumble had played well against
Bermuda, then why he was not included
against Sri Lanka ! What Harbhajan Singh
had done ?
5. Dravid failed to co ordinate with ex
Captains ! Ganguly was put in the deep mid
wicket ! Why ? God knows ! At the difficult
times, all the ex xaptains should have been
nearer to exchange the views and
suggestions for trying to deliver the best
at the difficult situation ! Hardly there
were conversations between Dravid and
Ganguly on the field to chalk out the
strategis under the prevailing situation!
Despite of above facts, I do not think that the Captain should be changed, and even it will be wise decision ! But of course, Dravid should be given certain guidelines to improve his captaincy as per the following :
1. First of all he should bury all his
personal egoes into the dustbin !
2. Secondly, he should be asked to make
himself more pro active !
3. Thirdly, he should be asked not to make his
face panic during the difficult times ! Be
brave, keep the head cool, which will help
him to take the correct decision !
4. Try to learn from positive criticism !
5. Approach to all players, listen to them
patiently, and try to know their
grievances, and take care their
concerns !
Apart from above, selectors should clearly instruct other players, that they do not want any rubbish in the team, they are free to express their views for the betterment of the team by sharing with captain, and decision of the captain will be final on the ground, and everyone have to follow the same honestly without any exception !
