Delegation of powers and accountability!
by Sreeram Ramaswamy on Apr 07, 2007 12:54 PM

Going by yesterday's BCCI meeting, it looks like there'll be significant changes in the domestic format, grooming youngsters, cap on endorsements etc. I hope BCCI does what it says and yesterday's announcements don't just remain in the paper. It needs transparency and honesty with sincerity of purpose to achieve this.

Ravi Shastri can prove to be a good team man and so could gel nicely as the team manager and can double-up as a good coach as well.

Appointing Greg as consultant and in-charge of NCA is a good move. He should be given a free hand, so that he can groom many youngsters like Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik, who as of now, are out of the public glare.

Dilip's suggestion of having 30 men in the talent pool is a very good idea and India A team should be nurtured and encouraged to play more overseas tours apart from home matches against foreign teams.

There was also the talk of forming a pitch committee, which will oversee modifying patches to the level of international standards so that our team don't struggle when they go abroad. I hope they live up to what they have said y'day.

Changing of domestic format is very critical and once the domestic league is made competitive by making mandatory for even the seniors to play a minimum set of matches, BCCI would've helped in creating a supply pool of talent to Team India.

So, once these various committees are formed and people in-charge of their respective department are given a free-hand, they become automatically accountability for the performance. Due credit should be given for success and reprimanded for their failures.

Either perform of go should be the order of the day.
