Medal winners
by sandeep das on Aug 05, 2008 10:34 AM

I think that it is an unnecessary waste of our time and even of life, to feel unhappy at not winning medals at the Olympics. We do not have the infrastructure to produce such athletes and not likely to have any for a long time so why don't we just enjoy the games. Let us give our exploited people some good leadership and then maybe we will have some winners on the games fields.
In the meanwhile let's celebrate Spelling Bees, Scrabulous, Hotmail, Chess and even cricket, all of which we are good at.
let us also celebrate Carnatic and Hindustani music, Kuchipudi, Kathak and other dance forms, Kashmir's syncretic Islam, one crore Gods of Hinduism, the spiritual freedom that we give each other, Tandoori chicken, the Nano car, tea from the Nilgiris and Darjeeling, veg food from Woodlands, the Taj Mahal, the sand dunes of Rajasthan, the backwaters of Kerala and so much more. God could not have given us more. If the price of having all this is not have athletes winning medals then so be it. Madhav Das
