federer-sampras clash
by biswanath roy on Nov 20, 2007 10:26 AM

it really is astonishing to see tiny countries like malaysia,s.korea, and macau holding this high profile clash, while india which has the best record of tennis in asia, nowhere in the picture. even in ATP tournaments held in india, like the one held in chennai every year courtesy vijay amrithraj, oonly one high ranking player per year turns up for the tournament.whereas in a country like china which has no history of tennis worth its name every year the premiere year ending ATP Masters tournament is held in shanghai, where the first 8 ATP ranking mens players fight for the title. indian tennis enthusiasts are yet to see the likes of federer, sampras, agassi, roddick.djokovic, play on indian soil.even in woman's tennis china has hosted the williams sisters, cljister, sharapova, kuznetsova etc
even tiny dubai and qatar are regularly hosting high ranking players in tournaments held in their respective countries. the AILTA should take more positive interests in this regard, as this is one sport where india gets maximum medals in asiad and olympics courtesy leander paes. if india wants to continue its hold on the game atleast in asia more initiatives have to be taken.
