Achieve something worthwhile before inspiring others
by Bala on Jan 24, 2005 12:04 AM

It is an indication of how pathetic our sports establishment is when a player who reached the third round of a grandslam before getting blown away talks of inspiring others.

For god's sake, it was just the third round!!!!. Go and win tournaments and reach the top 10 (or even top 20) before talking of inspiring others.

If someone wants to get inspired by anyone, then they should get inspired by the achievements of Leander and Mahesh. Now they were true champions.

Its time we stopped highlighting the meagre achievements of our sports persons while ignoring the fact that our nation, with its billion strong population, can only produce players who reach the third round of australian open, or get a silver in the olympic shooting event. I can only shake my head in wonder.

At least this gives fodder to sites like rediff or newspapers to spend words in interviewing the families of the players concerned and extolling how their upbringing played a big part in their small achievement.

Mera Bharat Mahan!!!!
