The Congress may have finished a second, but it remains ahead of the BJP in terms of vote share. An analysis of the results on the Election Commission website shows the Congress won 34.6% of the votes against the BJPs 33.9%. While that represents a swing of about 0.7 percentage points away from the Congress since 2004, it means the BJP has picked up an additional 5.6%. The JD(S), badly mauled, has not faced a huge negative swing in terms of vote share. Its vote share has dropped by less than two percentage points: from 20.8% in 2004 to 19.1% now. --Times of India
