Most tenets - Islam, christianity, Sikhism et al that have sprung up over the last 2000 years have a few things in common - eradicating the evils that infested the society. some of these are Idol worship, discrimination or disparities(essentially the caste system), and superstition that were prevalent when the spiritual gurus taught people to rise against them. Over a period of time, however, these tenets - or shall we say religions - lost their founding principles as is apparent from the practices the followers of these beliefs follow.
Talk about Classless society. Do we have any religion - or community - which has actually been able to do away with this phenomenon? Every religion today has classes, sub classes and community e.g. Mazhabi Sikhs, Shias, Momins etc.
Superstitions are an area best left undiscussed. It is impossible to find a tenet without people who are not superstitious.
Last but certainly not the least - Idol Worship. The forms of Idols and methods of worship may be different, but idol worship does flourish in EVERY religion - i am yet to find a Sikh home without the photograph of a Guru or a Muslim household without a Mecca photo. Worship can happen even without lighting an incense stick.
