After Nehru who?
by Ramesh Kapoor on May 09, 2008 10:10 PM

Mr. Shenoy and many readers will recall the common statement during the 1950s and early 1960s, as to who will be India's next prime minister. There were many names during the time that were floated, except that at the end barring a short spell by Late Lal Bahadur Shastri, it never dawned on India that a dynasty will be born and it would be Nehru's Daughter, Indira Gandhi, and the rest is history. The Indian National Congress has maneuvered its way by various methods and is where it is, although decimated in number, but still holding the Indian charter of governance. So nothing wrong is seen if it is Rahul, Priyanka or her children. India is not a democracy but a suspect autocracy. Arjun Singh only recently said, democracy does not exist in Congress party.
