Discrimination
by Shaheena Parveen on Mar 28, 2008 09:17 PM

I beleive that this is a misguided attempt by some fanatics in Pakistani society to curtail the freedom of women and push them back to the middle ages by launching a vicious derogatory propaganda. If the girls get hooked, then what about the boys. If a girl wants to smoke then why is such a hue and cry raised. I know smoking is bad, but the question is not smoking- the question is the freedom to smoke or not. Many girls view smoking as a way to demonstrate their protest against the repressive male domination in Pakistani society. I had always suspected that this new government in Pakistan would soon be Talibanised, and now I see it being done even faster than I expected. The Pakistani women are bound to have worse days ahead. I appeal to the world to knock some sense into the brains of these men. Sometimes I feel that both Pakistan and India would have been so much better if all people had stuck to the original Hindu / Buddhist faiths and not converted to Islam which is so opressive for women.
