Third Alternative - A wasteful exercise
by jamsheed basha abumohammed on Mar 28, 2008 07:20 AM

When major regional parties have alligned with either BJP or Congress, the left over Leftist with splinter parties could not form a credible third alternative. This could be a reality if they could rope in major regional parties like DMK or AIADMK or TDP, SP, BSP and likes. These parties alone could be credible alternative to Congress and BJP. Until this happens the thinking of forming a third alternative will be futile exercise. For the present Congress is firmly in saddle with all major allies intact. Same is the case with BJP. If Congress and Allies have earned a good rapport with general public through liberalised economic policies and improvement in the general working conditions, then the only problem is rising prices that may take a toll of it.But then the trend could not be curbed simply by chaning the parties at the Centre. The best method to counter inflationary trends is to drastically cut excise and other duties on goods of importance. The steel and cement becoming costly should be made cheaper. All other essential commodities are becoming costlier owing to rise in prices of petroleum products. The Govt has to think of reducing excise duties on petroleum products so that the transport becomes cheaper. Any increase in the oil price would have direct effect on the prices of commodities. This is what exactly is required for the govt to do so that the general public does not suffer much owing to spiralling prices. The third alternative would help BJP and not them,is clear.
