Good article with a weak ending
by Deepankar Chakravarti on Mar 25, 2008 10:46 PM

A very well written article that reminds of the well researched and painstakingly written articles writen by Arun Shourie during the VP Singh years. However the ending was weak.In the world of governments and diplomacy everything is done with consideration. In this case Nehru was all powerful.Nobody had the gumption except maybe Sardar Patel to oppose him.He peddled his half baked concepts and unrealistic understandings of world affairs.I can imagine seasoned politicians like Churchill smirking in derision at Nehrus Quixotic windmills of Panchsheel and NAM.That era of absolutism spawned people like VK Krishna Menon. It was not negation of spirituality but a total miscalculation on the part of our rulers that has lead to this mess. The question is can we come out of it.As we deal with the hallicunating Left and the Mandalised Yadavs, foreign policy is again left in the hand of some overtly ambitious mandarins who are committing the same blunder again when it has come to the nuclear deal. The only silver lining that I see in external affairs is that Natwar Sigh is finally out.
