It will take you at least 7 more births to understand this..lol as for your specific concerns, poverty is more in the mind, Indians maybe less literate by firang scale but are more educated, and where on earth my friend are no problems..the point my friend is exactly this, being noble and happy despite all this.its called evolving as a civilisation.
