Tibet Protest - China should act fast
by jamsheed basha abumohammed on Mar 21, 2008 01:28 PM

The fact that so many US officials have been meeting Dalai Lama, itself is a testimony of the importance they attach to the recent protests in Lhasa vis-a-vis the brutal force used by China to quel the riots. It appears that the world attention started its focus on the development in Tibet and Chinese cannot ignore it. Once the world opinion goes against it, then things will be too hot for them to handle. It is in the fitness of things that they should act fast and invite Dalai Lama for talks. He has already expressed his willingness to talk to the Chinese to find a solution. The political leadership in China should not let this chance go out of their hands.Indpendence demands may be watered down but then they have to agreed to grant some sort of autonomy to the roof of the world.Chinese must understand that in this era of globalization, they cannot hold fast to anything with brutal force.Once the public opinion goes against them, then many dormant ethnic groups will rise against them. The Chinese are unot unitary country and multiple cultures and ethnic groups forming their populace,it would be easy for them to rise against the authoritarian regime.China has done well in the recent times when they open up their economy following widespread changes in the world. Its welcomed by the world at large and the Chinese goods once boycotted found its market all over the world. These goods became popular both for quality and price. This one factor should work for a solution in Tibet.Act fast.
