My country my life
by Rajesh Kumar on Mar 21, 2008 07:54 PM

Advani has written a very honest memoir and a foreword by Vajpayee is another shot in the arm for this book. Though I haven't read it I did go through some important sections of the same which were mentioned in India Today. The good thing about this book is that Advani had not failed to mention his differences with Vajpayee on some issues and also the feud within BJP after his much criticised, praising of Jinnah as secular. He also said he never regretted for the remarks made about Jinnah and gave the reason for the same. Everyone would have thought that the book would be simply Congress bashing right till the end but it wasn't. Advani has praised Narasimha Rao and Manmohan for bringing lot of economic reforms in the country during the former's tenure as prime minister but at the same time he also described Manmohan as the weakest Prime minister ever and he also wondered whether Sonia Gandhi's residence was the offical residence of the prime miniser. He also sympathised with Sonia Gandhi for the pains she had undergone as a woman, but at the same time questioned her for applying for Indian citizenship only when Rajiv Gandhi was about to enter Indian politics. What was she doing all along for 14 years after her marriage. Overall it was an open book in which he had covered almost every aspect of Indian politics he has experineced all these years. With elections not too far way this book will have a serious effect on the Indian voters and
might pave the way for BJP rule.
