the article 370 giving a special status to kashmir was a demand made by the rajah of kashmir ... nehruji had two choices, either send in military and capture the state or peacefully accept the outcome.
the sane minds that prevailed then thought that artcle 370 was a better choice as military use in kashmir could alienate the locals - mostly muslims, if you didn't know that and could even bring the state under UN supervision ... and thus another separate country.
so, it was a smart decision then ... today, people can disect it all and say, if they had done this this would have happened, or not done this, this would not be the situation ... like Nehruji had a crytal ball then to see the flow chart of decision making and and its impact 60 years later.
It was Nehru's policies and his impetus to science and technology that India today is closer to the developed world ... what kind of science and technology can our neighbors claim to be expert in? the technology to blow oneself up just by pulling a string ... LOL
