I take Zardari at his word that he means what he says and that the other political parties will fall in line his policy. I think Bharat will find his suggestion that it engage with all the parties of his coalition impractical. While his statement is welcomeOf course, the red carpet cannot be laid out for Pakistan's leader until it is sorted out. If this is the final recognition by Pakistan that it is no longer pursuing a claim on Kashmir so much the better for improved relations between our two countries. Contrary to Indian thinking, Pakistan's military so much in hoc with militants has been unwilling to to relinquish its claim on Kashmir. Musharraf's days may be numbered, but Pakistan's military remains to be sent back to the barracks for good.
