Manekshaw- a tribute
by Vanitha Balasubramanian on Jul 01, 2008 05:29 AM

Sam lives in our hearts andit hardly matters whether a bunch of so-called leaders attended his funeral or not.Even if they had come, they would be afraid of death and be guarded by so many security men that the commomer would have been kept at bay.The very fact that in every newspaper,so much is written abt Sam that the politicians are running for cover and coming with erratic statements everyday.Even in Bangla Desh, they have called him "THE pride of Bangla Desh. But in India ,the politicians are not aware of the importance of Sam because the only identity they know is the Gandhi family[not Mahatma, but Nehru}.So they have time only for "yes,Madam,Ok madam. We should educate our children about Manekshaw andmake them proud of those who have brought honours to our country.Incidentally,I came across a news in Hindusthan Times that they have a lesson covering Sam's role in their freedom stuggle. So ,we need not be peeved over Govt's indifference and be proud that the whole nation as one is paying the tribute to sam
