RE:What abt BJP?
by Kris iyer on Jun 26, 2008 11:48 AM

Libran, Your impressions on BJP's stand may not be the correct picture.
News reports have quoted L.K.Advani as saying, in effect, "BJP will re-negotiate this Indo-US Deal to clarify that Indian can conduct more tests." He also added that BJP is for a strategic relationship with the USA.
This does not sound like BJP is denying "credit" for Congress. If you examine what BJP stands for on a number of issues, there is greater clarity than Congress. ToI conducted an "on-line" poll which showed that about 84% people who responded favour further tests, as BJP has stated.
Unfortunately, our news media do not publish or even investigate what BJP's stand is. Indian media is mostly giving negative publicity to BJP. But media analysts will be able to show Congress gets the benefit of "positive spin" more often than BJP. Bad-mouthing the BJP is second nature to a number of JNU - type leftist Hindu intellectuals (usually holding a US green-card or a son or daughter studying there - some with secret bank accounts abroad). They will bad-mouth BJP even more severely, if there are muslims around.
I am not supportive of the BJP on every issue. I think, for instance, they badly mishandled the "Ayodhya Agitation". Demolition of anything is hooliganism. No party should have supporters like that who will misbehave in that manner. But, at least, I find them rather more sincere than Congress. SINCERETY as a quality is absent in most Indian political parites, except the BJP.
