TO TOP SCIENTISTS
by damodaran mohan on Jun 24, 2008 09:08 PM

1. The IAEC has been fully involved to take care of the implications, nuclear deterrence and the issue relating to Additional Protocol etc. mentioned in the above Technical Ramayana . It cannot be open to a public debate.
2.Weakening of indigenous R&D efforts : this deal on the contrary should STRENGTHEN by ending the nuclear apartheid of our scientists. As an underdeveloped country in the fifties to seventies India made spectacular progress in the Nuclear field but ironically in the 21st century as an emerging POWER India has fallen far behind. This deal attempts to bridge that gap aimed at long term ENERGY SECURITY needs.
3.The Hyde Act has to be construed as part of the national laws of signatory countries which will anyway come into effect in case of breach . No country will offer us Deal with a commitment of shipment of Uranium and the right to carry out Test which will always be at a cost with or without a Deal. We have faced it amply already. The moot question is whether we are Technically as advanced as the Nuclear nations to dictate our terms !
4 UPA- LEFT committee: even the lay man on the street knows its significance. The reaction of the LEFT spokesman to SP is enough to understand what exactly are their objections.
