RE:nuclear deal
by Kris iyer on Jun 24, 2008 05:47 PM

R. Sreenivasan, Sound points.
1) I have just read the report on the Three Scientists. Their arguments are very specific.
2) I do not comprehend why Dr.Manmohan should take this as a lowering of his work or dignity. It seemed like a good idea to begin with. Not all such schemes turn out to be really good. Never mind. We should move on. I wonder if like a lot of Punjabis, if I may say so, Dr.ManMohan has problems with not being ablt to finish something he has started - a character that is useful in the army, battling our enemies. But not here, with an intricate international agreement that may last for years.
3) I do believe our people are "suggestible". Someone suggested it in the USA to "separate the military from the civilian", subject only the civilian to IAEA control, Dr. Manmohan thought it was a great idea. But every idea is great without the details. The DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS.
4) I agree with you - Hydro and Thermal power generation. I am keen on SOLAR ENERGY. See "Photo-voltaic Cells" can be improved to match production with nuclear energy. It would be cheaper in the longer run.
5) Let us see what our PRIVATE SECTOR can do in this nuclear field. Let the UPA govt., do that.

I agree with your sentiment that India may be rushed into this without proper info. Self-reliance is better than all this complicated agreements and "waiting upon others for supplies". Let us produce our own supplies.

PATIENCE, SELF-CONFIDENCE AND HARD-WORK WILL WIN EVENTUALLY.
